Medialab Bogotá

Alejandro Tamayo, an engineer at the University of Eafit (Colombia) with a graduate degree in Design and Computational Arts, Concordia University (Canada), leads this group. His career has combined teaching, research and artistic creation, integrating design, art, science and technology. His interests led him to found the workshop taller v*i*d*a lab, in 2005, a laboratory of interdisciplinary exploration for industrial design students from Universidad Javeriana (Colombia).

Medialab Bogotá began as a research laboratory in design, art, science and technology with the idea of encouraging the formation of an interdisciplinary community in Bogota, a place where artists, scientists and engineers could meet to think and dream. To date, this group has held workshops and exhibitions in different parts of Colombia and abroad, in countries such as Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Finland and Czech Republic.

At MDE11 they will create an interdisciplinary space for lectures and workshops open to the public. The central theme of their participation in the meeting is life at a macro and microcosmic scale.

As the creator of Medialab Bogota, Tamayo says: “There is contact of art with society due to the very language of art, which is essentially poetic, and therefore is outside language, and is rich and evocative not due to what it says but due to what it does not say.”
