Born in Medellin (Colombia) in 1984. He received a Master in fine arts from the University of Antioquia in 2009, and works as a visual artist since 2004. He currently works and lives in Medell\u00edn.<\/p>\n
He has participated in various social projects at different venues, which include: BBVA Art Show (Banco de la Rep\u00fablica), 42 \u00b0 National Salon of Artists, 13th Regional Exhibition of Artists, IV Exhibition of Two-Dimensional Art, XV National Salon of Visual Arts Exhibition Prize Fernando Botero, Department of Visual Arts Exhibition, Art and Space, among others. His work also part of the South American Collection of Insurance.<\/p>\n
Taking as reference the “Botanical Expedition” (1808), directed by the Spanish scientist Jos\u00e9 Celestino Mutis, For MDE11 Monsalve will create ‘Expedition extinction’ as a new survey by the arts integrated with plant sciences. It will be a reflection on the environmental effects caused by global warming, based on the identification and reproduction of 20 plant species in danger of extinction in Colombia, which in turn were discovered and illustrated by Mutis.<\/strong> These images will be created with chlorophyll, so they will disappear in a period of about 15 years, following the logical processes they represents.<\/p>\n Educational experimentation as a tool within contemporary art practices will allow, during the project, the use of alternative models for teaching and research, thereby increasing community experiences.<\/strong> According to Monsalve, this will make it possible for art practices to “be perceived as experiential experimental laboratories where error comes before the test.”<\/p>\n Website<\/strong> Links of interest<\/strong><\/p>\n ‘New Colombian Artists\u2019,<\/a> by Carlos Arturo Fernandez<\/p>\n
