MDE07

The theme of the previous event, Encuentro Internacional Medellín 07, was “Contemporary Art Practices: Spaces of Hospitality”; from January to June 2007, contemporary art from all over the world was shown in museums, parks, streets and public spaces throughout Medellín.

MDE07 promoted different notions of space in order to spark the circulation of people, art projects and varying cultural ideas.

In Medellín, a city that has experienced painful, deep-seated changes, hospitality was understood as the possibility of re-establishing social bonds by noting how each of us is someone else’s “other”. Opening the city up to others let us view ourselves with pride, show our culture and art production to the world, and enrich ourselves by acknowledging the contribution of others.
