The center is an institutional project conducted by the art collective Taller Sitio Estudio. It was created in order to invigorate the heritage center of the Prado Centro sector as a cultural development node for the art sector and the city itself.
A group of thinkers and creators founded Taller Sitio in the year 2000. The collective has carried out proposals dealing with spaces as places to create and disseminate art practices in general, while also viewing the city and its spaces from the standpoint of cultural development.
Plazarte will be hosting Lugar a Dudas, an alternative cultural space from the city of Cali that will be establishing dissemination and cultural exchange dynamics in Medellín, and Proyectos Ultravioleta, which will be undertaking a residence project to disseminate Latin American identity.
For the Taller Sitio collective, education in art and culture is not necessarily undertaken from academia as the favored entity for imparting knowledge and the practice of art as a space for knowing and doing; it believes the importance of opening up and breathing new life into spaces as places for creation, dissemination and free thought is the engine of the city’s cultural development on two fronts: as centers for strengthening and providing visibility to artists, and as places for the community to exchange and receive training.
This host space will also be receiving a series of guest artists from Medellín: Juan Guillermo Agudelo, Luis Fernando Betancourt, Gloria Erazo (Asencultura), Jorge León Gómez, Juan Fernando Vélez, Kike Aguilar, Julio Cesar Salazar and Joan Sebastián Osorio.
