Mark Tribe was born in 1966 in San Francisco (USA); he holds a degree in Visual Arts from Brown University (1990) with an MBA from the University of California (1994). In addition to being an artist, he is a curator interested in art, technology, communication theories and politics. Tribe founded Rhizome in 1996, an organization that supports the creation, presentation, preservation and critique of emerging artistic practices.
The Dystopia Files is his current project. This is a series of video clips that show relationships between police and demonstrators. The installations and performances based on this file have been exhibited at the DeCordova Museum (USA), the Wexner Center (USA) and Le Bal (France). Mark has organized curatorial projects for the New Museum of Contemporary Art, Mass Moca, MASS MoCA and inSite_05.
At Port Huron Project ‘Port Huron Project’, a series of performances of protest speeches that are part of the leftist movements of the Vietnam era. Each speech was held at the original site of the event and was given to an actor or artist from the audience. Videos of these performances have been selected on campus, exhibited in art spaces and distributed online by the media operating under the open source initiative.
